WooHoo! In Plain Sight Renewed for 2 More Years
![]() Excuse the 'WooHoo!' It was a momentary relapse, but it is a very understandable relapse as USA Network has renewed the series In Plain Sight for two more years. If they announced renewing Royal Pains or Burn Notice it wouldn't be a surprise (which, to my knowledge, they are a season by season basis), but In Plain Sight is the little one of USA. While the summer shows of White Collar and Psych have moderate success along with USA's powerhouses on Thursday (the Burn Notice and Royal Pains), and even new series Covert Affairs is now pretty much in third place for the net, their spring lineup is not talked about as much.
Though, I don't watch Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which was In Plain Sight's spring buddy, I don't remember hearing much towards ratings. But, I guess they are fairly cheap to produce, and the spring is generally lower than summer (on cable nets) in general, USA Network seems to be very happy with their numbers. (according the article, the finale had strong ratings, but it doesn't give specifics). But let's not mention numbers. The show itself is a solid and very engaging series. It is VERY character heavy (particularly the lead character of Mary Shannen, and US Marshal). This doesn't mean a lot of characters, but the dynamics that exist with each of them separate, as a whole, and with each other. Mary takes her job VERY seriously, is the tough-love character, has family issues that drive her insane, but her job is the thing that keeps her, well, sane. The series really doesn't get the attention it deserves. And while I do like that new series, Covert Affairs (in terms of a female lead), In Plain Sight still comes off far superior. I prefer it also over Royal Pains, and maybe a hair over White Collar. Though, Psych still has my love when it comes to a USA Network series. Chuck's mom will be played by...
...Linda Hamilton. That's right. The impressive guest list that follows the NBC series, Chuck keeps on coming. The 2nd season introduced us to Chuck and Ellie's dad, who was played by Scott Bakula (Enterprise and Quantum Leap fame), so it makes perfect sense for the mother to be played by someone else of sci-fi stardom, and that means Linda Hamilton (who played Sarah Connor in the first two Terminator movies).
This year also brings in Dolph Lundgren (from the 4th Rocky movie), the return of Nicole Ritchie as a high-school enemy of Sarah, and also recently announced, Olivia Munn (Attack of the Show co-host) will also guest on Chuck this upcoming 4th season. Just to note ('cause it is fun), here are other past guests (and some recurring stars) to this series: John Laroquette, Chevy Chase, Matt Bomer, Tricia Helfer, Brandon Routh, Angie Harmon, Kristin Kreuk, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Dominic Monaghan, Morgan Fairchild, Michael Clarke-Duncan, Jordana Brewster, and it goes on (and that's just three seasons). Premieres This Week
This week, the summer continues as BBC America premieres the 2nd season of Being Human (after the season finale of Doctor Who) on Saturday, July 24 at 10PM and TBS brings back its comedy My Boys on Sunday, July 25 at 10PM (back to back episodes).
Being Human may sound like a joke when you start to read "A vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost live together..." but the series is actually quite remarkable. I watched it when it premiered in the US last year (it's a British show, and to my knowledge, they already aired the 2nd season and are currently filming a third) and wasn't expecting much. Where some of these guides get drama-comedy for it, I have no idea. If it's from a few witty remarks, then almost every drama could be considered a dramedy of some form. This series is very serious and has a great cast. As stated, a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost share a home, trying to live normal lives (trying to be human). Mitchell (vampire) deals with bloodlust that he lives with forever, trying to not feed or kill humans. George (werewolf) has to come to terms with what he is (what he becomes on the night of a full moon) while trying to form a romantic relationship with Nina (whom, at the end of season one *spoiler* was accidentally scratched by him, and therefore will be a were herself). And Annie (ghost) has to deal with the events surrounding her death (she can move on without resolving the issues, which *spoiler* she worked out as it was her fiancee that killed her, and when he confessed she had the opportunity to move on, but passed in order to help her friend Mitchell). With only 6 episodes last season, a lot sure did happen, and I very much look forward to season 2. My Boys deals with a sportswriter named PJ, who hangs out with her friends (mostly guys, with one female friend) in Chicago. The series is actually pretty funny, with sports, poker, bars, friendship, and relationship, it's got a great cast and is a great show to just sit down in front of a TV and unwind.
